Outline of Course

There are 3 sessions on offer.

A Brief introduction to counselling skills

This will be a practical session in which to learn and practise several simple but powerful listening skills. There will be a focus on active listening, paraphrasing, summarising and communicating empathy.
 Mental Health Awareness

An opportunity to develop awareness of stress, anxiety and depression and to learn strategies to manage these that can be used personally and also with students.
Mindfulness for staff    Mindfulness is a technique that enables us to become more aware of the stream of thoughts and feelings that we experience. Once we are more aware, we can start to notice unhelpful patterns of thinking or behaviour that cause us difficulties in our lives. This session will be focusing on how mindfulness works within the brain but most importantly will include plenty of opportunity to practice mindfulness.
